What we are about

Newcastle Cathedral College of Music was established in 2018 to provide educational opportunities and practical experience for this region’s most talented students, especially those seeking further education and employment in the Music industry. In 2019, under the auspices of RTO 91281 - the National College of Dance, NCCM will offer a Certificate IV in Music Industry, and from 2020 will offer Diploma in Music Industry.

The unique aspect of these courses is established in the links between the NCCM, The Choir of Christ Church Cathedral, and Christ Church Camerata. Most face-to-face hours of the program provide real experience in the making of music with two of Newcastle’s leading ensembles and their associated soloists, musicians and conductors. It gives students the option to remain with their current instrumental teachers, or to work with tutors closely associated with the NCCM. Training involved in the courses can also assist students in their work through institutions such as the Australian Music Examinations Board and Trinity College. It may be possible for students to gain recognition or credit towards their schooling for successful completion of the Certificate IV or a Statement of Attainment. Students should speak directly with their school to seek further information.

Newcastle Cathedral College of Music seeks to:
  • provide the highest level of education for those seeking a career in Music;
  • offer ongoing performance opportunities (by audition only) with Christ Church Camerata and Christ Church Cathedral Choir;
  • provide relevant industry experience and professional contacts;
  • develop a vibrant and unique educational experience for those wishing to explore a career in the music industry;
  • create pathways for further study and employment as orchestral and choral musicians, soloists, conductors, and teachers.
